Information for Breast Implants Patients

The breast lies on top of the pectoral muscle and consists of lobes, glands, soft tissue and fatty tissue. During breast augmentation surgery an implant is placed between the pectoral muscle and the tissue in order to enlarge and enhance the breast profile. Implants can be composed of either silicone or saline. Silicone breast implants look and feel realer than saline, but if ruptured, are not reabsorbed by the body, unlike saline implants. The best candidates for breast implants are those with high self esteem, and are close to their ideal weight as a major drop or gain in weight after surgery may affect the breasts in an unwanted manner. Breast implants are not permanent, and must be replaced after several years. If considering breast implants it is best to consult a certified plastic surgeon before deciding for or against breast augmentation surgery.
